The Fletcher Challenge retirees’ and former employees’ clubs began during the 1980s, and continue to exist due to the affection and loyalty that past employees retain for the company. They also provide opportunities to maintain the network of friendships forged during the years worked with Fletcher Challenge.
The closing of the Fletcher Challenge corporate office and the divestment of the divisions fundamentally changed the relationship previously enjoyed by the company and the retirees’ clubs. Since that time, the individual clubs have become ’stand alone’, and continue to exist on the basis of local interest and the enthusiasm of former employees.
The Fletcher Trust has supported this transition by donating computer equipment, software and internet access capability to each of the established clubs in Auckland, Tauranga, the Central Districts, Wellington and Christchurch. Membership is increasing in each of these clubs.
During 2002, The Fletcher Trust has further encouraged and supported the formation of clubs in Kawerau, Rotorua/Taupo, Invercargill and Dunedin.
